I made one of those little quizzes.

Original Trinity Hymnal, #615

Come, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of harvest home:
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin;
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied:
Come to God’s own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest home.

All the world is God’s own field,
Fruit unto his praise to yield;
Wheat and tares together sown,
Unto joy or sorrow grown:
First the blade, and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear:
Lord of harvest, grant that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take his harvest home;
From his field shall in that day
All offences purge away;
Give his angels charge at last
In the fire the tares to cast,
But the fruitful ears to store
In his garner evermore.

Even so, Lord, quickly come
To thy final harvest home;
Gather thou thy people in,
Free from sorrow, free from sin;
There for ever purified,
In thy presence to abide:
Come, with all thine angels, come,
Raise the glorious harvest home.

My sixteen-year-old sister, Jessica, (the youngest) was born with agenesis corpus collosum (condition where the thing that connects together the right and left brain doesn’t form correctly.) She still is non-verbal, although she’s got one of the best, wildest, and most delightful laughs on the face of the planet, and is very fluent in all sorts of non-sensical, enthused jibberish. Anyway, she remembered how to say “mamaammamamama” Tuesday. This is rather humourous because she actually used to say “mamamamammamama” and “dadadadadadadadadada” rather frequently when she was, oh, about six to eight, and then, for some reason, randomly stopped. Perhaps she forgot how? However, she didn’t say her version of “mum” yesterday (Wednesday), so perhaps she misplaced the ability again. I don’t suppose she will master her version of my name soon, as she has not yet figured out how to make the “sss” sound. I would absolutely love to see just how that little mind of hers works. She is a world unto herself.

The express lanes at the grocery stores are wicked fast during Thanksgiving season.

In two of my previous jobs — working in assisted living homes, one for mentally disabled adults, and one for adolescents with acquired traumatic brain injuries — we always used insta-mashed potato mixes, as preparing genuine mashed potatoes took too much time. I’ve always wanted to attempt making just-add-milk insta-mashed potatoes with powdered milk, just to see what would happen. The volatile concoction would likely explode.

I need to carry cash, instead of plastic, during the holiday season. Every time I walk past a Salvation Army bell ringer I feel really lousy if I don’t put any money in the pot. I’ve always had this complex, I think. All the times I’ve ventured into Mexico, on vacations or mission trips, I’ve tended to give more pesos than is wise away to those adorable, distressing street children. I must be a bleeding-heart Libertarian, or something, provided they even exist.

I completely forgot that I had spring term registration today. I remembered just in time. Ended up chosing:

ENGL 3001W - Textual Investigation, Interpretation, and Analysis. (This is my second literary theory course, not sure why two are needed for the major.)

ENGL 3006W - Historical Survey of American Literature II. (I’m excited, was overexposed to early American literature in high school.)

ENGL 3007 - Shakespeare. (Shakespeare is Shakespeare, as we all know.)

HIST 3619 - Medieval History 1050-1500. (I’m currently finishing the first half of this course. I complete my history minor at the end of the semester, so taking this isn’t required, but I really fancied the course, and need to remain a full time student to retain health insurance.)
