Mr. Stewart (Mike), as you seem to be blogland’s resident expert on all languages of foreign origin, could you be so kind as to explain to us why the pronunciation of the French language differs so radically from its spelling? Also, esteemed Michael, why is it that the modern English language is so much closer to the modern Germanic, when France is closer to England that Germany, and both France, England, and Germany are germanic in origin?
