We’ve been planning to buy this daybed from Ikea along with a bed to go underneath to use in our guest bedroom. Has anyone seen it in store or have any experience with it?

What are the mattresses made of? The one in this picture looks like a bedroll.

it’s pretty

The one we have is made of foam, and we have a very thin pad that goes on top of it. No springs, no box, simple and cheap! And comfy. It does roll up very easily, for moving.

Is this what mom & I may sleep on, come the end of the month?

We can’t wait to see you all and hold Evelyn close. I loved how she was enjoying the picture of her cousin.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get up to the Atlanta IKEA until April. I wish there was an IKEA close to us.

I don’t argree with that bed. The bottom mattress is way to close to cockroach land.

There be no cockroaches in that house. And if they are there, I’m sure they’re friendly ones.

Evelyn has a cousin?

GrandDad Jones on February 4th, 2006 at 10:51 pm

I think you could consider it to be a 1st cousin 8 months removed.

my daughter has this exact bed in her room. what do you want to know about it?

Nathanael on February 5th, 2006 at 3:18 pm

Hi Amy, thanks for stopping by. With regards to the bed, would it be comfortable for an adult? Also, how sturdy is it? Do you think it will last a while with toddlers playing on it?

amy on February 6th, 2006 at 3:46 pm

it’s very, very sturdy. i can’t imagine any play that would able to damage it in any way. also it has no sharp corners to whack the head/knee/etc. on - and three sides are tall enough (by far) to keep from bouncing off. that may sound silly, but before this she used a kid bed with a bookshelf recessed into the headboard, and i can’t count the times she flopped her head back thinking she’d hit the pillow and ended up whacking the shelf.

the comfort level will depend on the mattress. we (being cheap), bought the cheapest cheap-o IKEA mattress and it was awful. but then, we put the IKEA thing on top of the old mattress as a sort of mattress-topper and it is very comfortable now.

i don’t think it’s high enough for a bed underneath.

Nathanael on February 7th, 2006 at 8:32 am

Thanks, Amy, for your input. That’s exactly what we were hoping to find out. We (er, I) are cheap too, so we may follow the mattress topper route that you took.
