Enamored as I am with anti-copyright arguments, here’s an interesting discussion on public domain Puritan works over at the Baylyblog. While it is true that many errant publishers seek to copyright their republished public domain works without any legal ability to do so, in the case of digital works there is often a little agreement known as the “Terms of Use.” Now, you and I both skim over these tedious documents every time we install a piece of software, but, if you ever read one carefully, you notice that you are usually only licensing said software. So, if you buy a digital version of the Everyman’s Puritan Library or Ray’s Arithmetic, then even if the publisher’s copyright is null and void, you’ve still given your word that you will only use that version in accordance with it’s license as defined in the “Terms of Use.” Question is, are you going to keep your word? And if you don’t keep your word, Dear and Gentle Scoundrel, will you be able to prevail against the “Terms of Use” in court?

Note: I respect Lawrence Lessig’s Powerpoint skills more, but the work he does on copyright law is also notable. See Save Orphan Works, as well.

Shiny pots… hmm.. I do run them through the dishwasher… I don’t scrub them with anything abrasive. I’ve used baking soda paste to get off tough food bits. Maybe that is why? I think the picture makes them shinier than they really are.

Did you get your good start package? I got the one I ordered. The coupon amounts are ridiculously small. Sorry. They’re in the mail to you now.

Thanels and Sarai, this is the link to the band i’ve been telling you about. it’s not a very navigable site, basically just a pic, but if you click on the ‘myspace’ link, you can listen to some of their music. from left they are matt, taylor, preston (the one i know), chip on percussion, and garrett. i was invited to a last minute vip show a couple nights ago at the place we went to hear that flatpickin. remember it? it reinforced my desire to have you guys come see them. anyway, i’m trying to find out when their next show is and to get you guys on the list if ya’ll can come. take a look and a listen. http://www.wildsweetorange.com/

How are their Powerpoint skillz? And what is their stance on copyright? I must only support those whose PP skillz are enough to attract girlz and whose copyright stance is such that their music is made available for free and those who wish to support it can out of the goodness of their heart. But, I will come watch a show with you and drink flat, flatpickin Guiness. As I am not judgmental when it comes to music, I will allow Sarai to review, whereas I will just be caught up in the moment and get tangled in stupid chords.

Thannel, thanks for the comment…its the first and only comment that I have ever received in all my blogging! A bit shabby for the guy who holds the world record for the most posts…all in a days work. I have another 3 or 4 posts, and pics to go with them, I just can’t make myself sit down to the computer and do it. Daiper pail is good, and has received the highest of ratings from Mickey McDaniel my insurance adjusting friend from the school of hard Knox Theological…by the way his homemade concoction is called “Stumbling Block Brewery”. Please give Sarah and Evelyn my regards. …Matt Stout over and out.
