Sunday Service at the Home for the Incurables

Idiots
Misfits
Drooling fools
And spastics:

Forgive my wretched poise
and tidy clothes
and manners acquired
from much church
and so little rubbing
into your palsy and piss
and men asleep from birth
living in cribs.

Undo
me
dear
incurables singing
“My Jesus” in slapstick,
your hands with minds
of their own
shaking praise.

Moving in your midst
a tender light,
a love unkempt

And blind waits on you
singly, touching
each ragged grief, each

Buried rage and sings
your circus hymns
with reverence,
as one who well knows
the pograms of fools.

Touch me, my gargoyle
heart, and make
me
crow.

That was my post by the way. I think I’ve mentioned Carol Bomer’s “Everlasting Doors” work before. When I saw that she had done some drawings based on Suzanne Clark’s work, I had to bring in my 2 degrees of separation and post it. I nearly had to borrow 10 quid from Mrs. Clark’s son in Londontown once. I was spending the nights on park benches and didn’t have the cash to get to my flight, nor was I smart enough to hitchhike. But, I went to the Baltic Hotel and sold one of my kidneys instead (ok, I just watched Dirty Pretty Things). Actually, some money showed up in my bank account and I had more than enough for the fare and dinner with young Clark. He was working in Bedford at the time as a pubkeeper, so when I heard he was there I called him and told him to meet me at Westminster Abbey for evensong. He did and we went to the Prince Arthur up by Camdentown and had a couple of pints and some bangers and mash. Good times.

I apologize for my atrocious grammar.

Thank you for your prayers in regard to our baby and pregnancy. We will be remembering you and Michael as well.

I’m glad to see this: an understanding of “Fine Art,” which is so often an expression of man’s misery; the strength of your faith.

Thank you for displaying my charcoal drawing. I did this piece in 2005. Where do you live? Don’t you LOVE Suzanne’s poetry!! We are working on a coffee table book of her poetry and my artwork.
